Debussy’s Opera in Full Score
This Dover Publications volume presents Claude Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande in full orchestral score. The opera’s five acts are brought together in one paperback volume, with vocal lines and orchestral notation arranged across the pages.
The French vocal text appears within the musical score. Maurice Maeterlinck is credited for the literary text in the photographed preliminary pages. A dramatis personae and contents section introduce the work before the music.
This is a full score for following the combined musical texture, not a piano-vocal reduction. It is also not a set of separate performance parts. The format allows readers to examine relationships between the voices and instrumental lines.
A Volume for Close Musical Study
The photographed spreads show densely arranged staves, rehearsal figures, dynamics, and performance markings. French words sit alongside the vocal notation. These details make the volume appealing for score study or following a recording.
The contents page lists the five acts and their scenes. A photographed opening is headed “Acte IV”. Other spreads show passages from elsewhere in the score, demonstrating the layout across different sections.
Pagination is supplied as 409 pages. The volume is reported complete, although every page has not been independently collated. No missing pages or interior tears have been reported.
Illustrated Paperback Cover
The pale cover carries Debussy’s name above an illustration of a woman among trees. The title appears below, followed by “in Full Score”. Thin linear decoration frames the central image and lettering.
Dover Publications, New York, is the supplied publisher. The exact printing year of this copy remains unconfirmed. Its appearance alone is not used to assign a precise 1980s or 1990s date.
The book measures approximately 19 × 27 × 1.5 cm according to the supplied dimensions. Its substantial page block gives it a noticeable presence among smaller music books. No weight is inferred from the photographs.
Condition
Good to very good overall used condition, with light cover rubbing, edge marks, and corner wear. The cover shows some curling and shallow creasing. Small darker marks are visible along the outer edge.
The photographed interior pages appear bright and the musical notation is clearly readable. The images do not establish that every page is unmarked or entirely free from toning. Minor page waviness is visible in some views.
The book remains bound and opens for the photographed spreads. The full binding has not been physically inspected through these images. Please review the cover, page-block, and open-book photographs for the individual condition.
