Mozart Sonatas in a Substantial Volume

This 1983 Éditions Choudens volume brings together an extensive collection of Mozart’s piano music in a single softcover score. The cover bears the title “Sonates” and credits the revision to Marguerite Long.

The complete volume contains 258 pages, with printed fingering throughout. Its substantial format offers a broad selection of repertoire without dividing the music between separate books. The score includes the Fantaisie KV 475 alongside the sonatas.

A thematic index presents twenty numbered entries with their opening bars. This visual guide helps identify the music directly from its opening phrases. It provides a useful reference before turning to the full scores.

The Marguerite Long Revision

The title page describes the edition as revised and fingered by Marguerite Long. Her name also appears beneath the title on the front cover. These credits distinguish this volume from other Mozart piano collections.

The notation combines fingering, articulation, dynamics and expressive directions within the piano layout. Musical examples fill paired treble and bass staves. Clearly separated systems give the pages an orderly appearance despite the volume’s substantial contents.

The French titles and editorial presentation belong to this Choudens edition. Conventional musical directions also appear within the scores. The publisher’s plate number, A.C. 17433, identifies the printed edition.

Teal Ornament and a Working Binding

A decorative teal border frames the white front cover. Small floral ornaments and crossed bands surround the large Mozart lettering. The publisher’s name appears above the title in an ornamental cartouche.

The rear cover carries a printed catalogue of classical music editions. Inside, a decorative black frame surrounds the title-page text. A small stamp appears near the upper corner of that page.

Black tape reinforces the worn spine. Cover rubbing, marks and corner wear contrast with the comparatively bright interior pages. This is a used music volume with its binding repair clearly retained.

Measuring approximately 24 × 31 × 2 cm, the book has a generous page format. Its combination of scores, fingering and thematic index suits a piano-music collection. The substantial page block gives it a noticeably different presence from a slim single-work edition.

Condition

Fair to good overall condition. The cover shows significant spine and corner wear, fading, surface soiling and edge damage. The rear cover has a small tear and lifting section near the lower outer edge.

Black tape reinforces the spine, and the volume holds together. Some pages curl slightly near the binding. The interior is bright, with clear, readable notation, no interior tears and no missing pages.
