About This Issue
This vintage Tout l’Univers magazine is issue No. 244, published for the week of 22–28 June 1966. Hachette’s French-language illustrated weekly brings together astronomy, cinema, literature and other educational subjects.
The cover features a colourful historical scene with a steam locomotive and a group of onlookers. A red masthead and yellow side panel frame the illustration, giving the issue a distinctive mid-century graphic appearance.
A Turquoise Map of the Sky
A double-page feature titled “Le Ciel en Mai et Juin — Secteur Ouest” presents a broad semicircular star map. Turquoise blue forms the background for labelled constellations, connecting lines and differently sized star symbols.
French constellation names include La Grande Ourse, Le Dragon, Le Lion and La Vierge. A symbol key and supporting text accompany the chart, combining visual appeal with the magazine’s educational format.
The map remains part of the photographed magazine spread. This listing is for the magazine, not a separate chart, poster or framed print.
Behind the Scenes of Cinema
“Comment naît un film” explores the work involved in designing film scenery. The photographed pages combine explanatory text with drawings, models and images of constructed sets.
A panoramic architectural reconstruction runs across the top of one spread. Smaller photographs illustrate the progression from preliminary sketches and scale models to full-size scenery.
These pages offer a period introduction to set design rather than a contemporary filmmaking manual. Their mixture of photographs and text provides another visual focus alongside the star map.
German Literature and Other Subjects
“La Littérature Allemande” covers the period “De Luther au Sturm und Drang.” Portraits accompany the text, including a large image of Martin Luther and smaller illustrations of literary figures.
The photographed back cover includes the contents box and illustrated material about life in the Americas and Australia. Other supplied contents include music, natural history and a Navajo museum feature.
Games and a Summer Competition
A “Nos jeux” page combines short puzzles, drawings and a crossword. A Grand Concours announcement advertises 1,000 prizes, preserving a small detail of the publication’s reader activities.
Condition
Good overall vintage condition, with light age toning, spine wear and handling marks around the edges. Small corner creases, edge nicks and slight page waviness are visible.
The photographed star map and illustrated features retain clear colour and readable text. A count of 20 pages has been supplied, but completeness has not been independently verified.
This listing does not guarantee every original page, insert or supplement is present. Please examine the photographs for the condition of the cover, centre fold and page edges.
