Antique Peking Chinese rug in original condition. The rug is in beige shade with yellowish brown border. It has minimal design on it as flowers and vases. The rug is in good condition due to its age, it has some low pile areas and stains in one corner.
Chinese Peking RugsRepresenting a newer and fresher period of antique production that began in China immediately following the end of the First World War, Peking Carpets are those antique rugs that were manufactured in the Chinese capital (formerly known in the west as Peking, now as Beijing) after rug making shifted there from historical the rug making centers like Ningxia and the other traditional markets in the Chinese interior. After this shift, Peking carpets were now made in larger sizes – often as room-sized pieces – which were intended to be more usable as decorative rugs in the Europe and the United States. Peking rugs in general had a tendency to adhere to the traditional patterns and stylizations that were popular in Ningxia, but, at times, the designs could be simpler and asymmetrical, often tending toward modern, Western Art Deco taste, and the weaving technique became thicker and tighter to make the rugs more durable for western use.
