Their contrasting decoration brings two distinct approaches to the same rounded form. Emerald green botanical ornament sits beside a graphic black-and-white cloud design, creating a small display with plenty of personality.

The Traditional Green Doll

The smaller doll has vivid emerald green lacquer and a hand-painted blonde face. Rosy cheeks, red lips and dark eye details give the expression its familiar, welcoming character.

A green sarafan carries stylised botanical decoration in gold and green. Flowers, leaves and scrolling forms enrich the body with a lively decorative rhythm. The rounded silhouette keeps the detailed painting neatly contained within a compact shape.

Described as Russian production, this doll is estimated to date from the 1970s–1990s. The date remains an estimate rather than a confirmed manufacturing year.

The Contemporary Black Doll

The larger doll takes a simpler, more graphic approach. White cloud motifs decorate its sleek black lacquered body, creating a clear contrast with the traditional green piece.

A white oval face carries dot eyes, pink blush and a small smile. The minimalist, kawaii-style expression gives this doll a distinctly contemporary character. Its maker, precise production date and country of manufacture are unknown.

Material and Display

Both dolls are made from turned, lacquered wood and open and close correctly. The black doll measures 8 cm high, while the green doll measures 6 cm. Each is approximately 3 cm in diameter.

Displayed together, the different heights and colour schemes give the pair a pleasing visual balance. Their small scale suits a shelf, desk or collector’s cabinet. This listing includes two dolls only; additional inner dolls are not specified.

Condition

The black doll is described as excellent, with bright, clean lacquer and no chips or wear. It opens and closes smoothly.

The green doll is in good condition, with vivid face and body decoration. Paint loss and scuffing are present at the base, consistent with age and handling. Both dolls open and close correctly.
